Experiential Therapies

Intensive Outpatient Addiction Treatment

Boardwalk Recovery Center offers a wide variety of therapeutic modalities, including experiential therapies, which are designed to help patients acknowledge their issues through a range of fun activities. These therapies enhance our patient’s quality of life and may increase their lifespan.

The atmosphere at Boardwalk Recovery Center is perfect to focus on your inner thoughts and connect to your psyche. It is calm, relaxing, and safe and there is a staff member nearby at all times just in case you need assistance. People need a calm environment in order to focus all of their energy on their psyche; this helps them acknowledge what emotions they may be suppressing. It is important to recognize your weaknesses and maladaptive behaviors in order to know what exactly you need help with.

Our experiential therapies will help you replace your negative behaviors and thoughts with positive coping mechanisms. You will learn to understand your emotions and how to correctly respond to your emotional triggers.

Boardwalk Recovery Center Experiential Therapies

We understand that substance addiction and mental health disorders can cause detrimental effects within both the addict and their loved ones, which is why the Boardwalk Recovery Center experiential therapies include family therapy. We believe that family therapy is the most effective form of therapy after Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. By including the family, we can gain further insight into our patient’s health history and family background.

A lot of people are unaware that relationships with family and loved ones may have been one of the causes of addiction; therefore, we like to educate the families about addiction: what it is, what it does, how it starts, who it affects, when to seek help, how to seek help and how effective treatment can be. We provide all the important information necessary to help the families understand addiction and how to support their loved one through the difficult process of recovery.

During our family therapy, we are also able to help mend broken relationships that may have occurred while our patients were still addicts. It is incredible how often we see patients successfully recover because they have their family around to support them. Support is the most important thing you can have during and after your treatment.

Because support is so important, we also offer a group therapy. Attending a group session will allow you to meet other recovering patients and have people around you who understand exactly what you are going through. During group therapy, you do not have to share but it is definitely encouraged. We found that when patients share their experiences, they can give insight, advice and tips to other patients; they are able to learn from each other and know that they are not alone. As we just mentioned, having a support group and people who love and understand you around during and after treatment is very important; it will significantly increase your chance of a successful recovery.

Other experiential therapies we offer, include:

  • Ecopsychology: Outdoor Group Therapy and Mindfulness Meditation
  • Meditation
  • Guided Imagery
  • Expressive Therapy
  • Psychodrama and Role Playing
  • Breath Work
