PHP

Leaving detox or residential treatment is a milestone — but for most people, it's also one of the most vulnerable points in early recovery. The structure disappears, and the real work begins. Our PHP Program exists for exactly this moment.

PHP at Boardwalk runs Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm, and asks for a 30-day commitment. That’s not arbitrary. Thirty days gives your clinical team time to actually know you — your triggers, your patterns, your progress — and gives you time to build the habits and connections that make sobriety stick.

What’s Included in PHP

This is full programming, not a watered-down step-down. Every day combines clinical care with real-world activity:

  • Individual Therapy: One-on-one sessions with your primary therapist to work through what’s underneath the addiction.
  • Group Therapy: Daily group sessions that build honesty, accountability, and connection with peers who get it.
  • MMA & Physical Activity: Our signature MMA therapy and gym outings use movement and discipline to rebuild confidence and release.
  • Case Management: Practical support for the real-life pieces — housing, employment, family, next steps.
  • Weekly Psychiatry: Regular psychiatric oversight to manage medication, monitor mental health, and adjust the plan as needed.

Why This Stage of Recovery Matters

Early sobriety is critical. The first 30 to 90 days after leaving residential care are when most relapses happen — not because people don’t want to get better, but because they lose the structure and support before they’re ready to stand on their own.

PHP bridges that gap. Our clinical and support teams have deep experience guiding newly sober people through exactly this window. They know what this transition feels like, they know what to watch for, and they know how to help clients move through it with confidence rather than fear.

Who PHP Is For

PHP is the natural next step for clients who have completed detox or a residential program and are ready to transition back toward daily life — but aren’t ready to do it without significant daily support. If you’re stepping down from a higher level of care, PHP is where that journey continues.

Life can be good again and we’d like to show you how.

Faqs

What is PHP?

PHP sits between inpatient residential care and standard outpatient on the continuum of treatment — full-day programming, five days a week, without the overnight stay.

How long is Boardwalk's PHP program?

We ask for a 30-day commitment. That timeframe gives our clinical team the opportunity to build a real relationship with each client and deliver meaningful, lasting progress — not just a brief handoff.

What are the PHP hours?

Our PHP runs Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm. Clients return home or to sober living in the evenings.

Who is PHP designed for?

PHP is designed for clients stepping down from detox or residential treatment who need continued structure and clinical support during early sobriety. If you’ve completed a higher level of care and aren’t ready for standard outpatient, PHP is the right next step.

Will my insurance cover PHP?

We work with a range of insurance providers to make treatment accessible. Contact our admissions team and they’ll help verify your coverage and walk you through your options.

Can I transition from PHP into IOP?

Yes. PHP is the first step in a structured continuum. Many clients move from PHP into our Intensive Outpatient Program as they build stability and confidence in their recovery.
